Scope functions are essentially extensions of objects that allow you to perform operations on the object within its own scope. They eliminate the need for explicit object references, making the code more concise and readable. Kotlin provides five primary scope functions:

  1. let: Evaluates a block of code on an object and returns the result of the last expression in the block.
  2. run: Evaluates a block of code on an object, but the result of the last expression in the block is ignored.
  3. with: Declares an object as the receiver of the block, allowing you to access its properties and methods without explicitly using the object reference.
  4. apply: Returns the receiver object after performing the operations specified in the block.
